Default Cobra 29 classic options

Okay everyone i know i have not beeen on here in a long time but been busy with work and kids but here is my question i have a Cobra 29 and thinking about putting a echo board and talk back in now for the talk back im thinking about putting it in the "delta-tune" location and leaving the clarifier in the middle position and for the talk back i would like to have it like the galaxy and have a seperate rotary knob and i was thinking how could this be done and does anyone have any ideas on how it could be done and i was then thinking wich hole it could take and i was thinking the "swr-cal" but is the swr cal an absolute necessity or is it just one of those slots that can be taken out without hindering anything

Thankyou for your replys.

i would put the echo on the swr place and just pu the talkback on a switch, such as the 9/19 or the blanketer switch....are ya gonna put a swing kit in it? or a mosfet final upgrade?

Roadrunner why do you say put it in the swr cal is there any particular reason you chose that and why do you say put the tb in a toggle switch and not a rotary and yes i will be doing a mosfet upgrade

idk thats just where i have mine at....seems to work very well in those locations for me, but hell its your radio put it where you would like to.as far as the rotary switch for the talkback i suppose you could use an existing hole or just drill another one somewhere. the options are really endless...on the face plate, on the top cover, side covers, or the back or even the bottom, what ever your preference should be.

Well the reason i chose a rotary knob was i did not want to drill any holes in the chassis use exsisting holes in the face and never knew what exactlly is the swr cal supposed to do anyways

it is suppose to check your swr's...but i would just use an external swr meter to do that, you cant trust the radio's meter....

Does the 29 have a clarifier? Or is that the delta tune?

That's the delta tune. That's where I prefer to put the echo controls.
If you decide to put talkback on a variable, you can do that...it's just
a matter of using a pot that has enough range to allow smaller adjustments.
If it's a 10k pot...all the adjustment will be over a very small range and it
will be pretty touchy.

I have my echo controls in the SWR/Cal knobs and my talkback is not adjustable. I don't like that because it's very quiet so I really can't even hear it most of the time. I would definitely make the TB adjustable and probably just put it in the delta tune knob.

You could put the varible talk back on the rf gain knob. who ever turns down there rf gain anyway? I like to put varible key on the rf gain knob. Im assuming you have the swing mod (jp 36). If the pot is not broad enough you could simply add another that is the correct ohms you need. just take the two wires off the rf gain contol solder them togeather. That opens up the rf gain wide open.
