pill conversion for 2970dx ??

hey everyone
i've read somewhere along the line that their is a conversion to go
from the 2290's to 2879's i think. now i know you can do it with other radios but how much advantage would i have right now i'm dead keying low pwr 5 swing to 50 hi pwr dead key 45-50 swing 150 on ssb i'm getting around 130. i have great output and audio everyone send's flowers my way but just looking for an experiment if it doesnt work ill change it back.so i'm looking for info on all parts to change.

I wouldn't mess around with a decent radio like that for a power gain that nobody will notice. Just my $.02.

Agreed!

Way too much to change in the amp stage besides the pills to get it tuned properly and the extra heat generated will be hard to dissipate.

i heres a better way to do it.disable the inernal amp and put it on
a switch on back. then get a ts350hdv or better yet a ts 500v

Or even better, leave the radio alone, and get an 8, 10, or 12 pill amp.

What are you nuts?

First off the radio as is makes a great driver.

Second ...TS amps are junk.

I don't know if I'd go as far as to use the "J word" for the TS's. I always had good results with the couple I have. I figured they were OK for what they were, a mass-produced, factory-made, assembly line amp. I've also been lead to believe that they are in actuality a class B biased amp, not a true AB-1 as advertised.

(You also know what I replaced them with.)

ya the radio by itself is a great driver i agree. but he was asking
about changing the pills. as far as ts being junk i absolutely disagree
they are great as long as ya dont overdrive them and not put more
than 14 volts in them they great.only one i dont care for is the 667v
cause it has a driver and most exports ive ever tried over driven it.
but i had great results with a grant/148 stlyle cb.now to get back on
subject an 8 pill would be great i wanted that kinda setup yrs ago when i
had a 2970 but couldnt find any powersupplys big enough to power
something of that size.and if i did it would be very expensive

eh everyone thank's for the replys i was just wondering.
i have a couple nice amp's but their isn't anyone in ontario that will work on them so i'm thinking i mite have to send them away. One is a kenrich eagle 500 and the other is a aea 1200 watt running one 3-500z eagle 500's tubes light up but no tx and the aea doesnt light the tube. like i said it was just a ? i have never been told anything bad about my 70dx it's got loads of audio and great fwd swing and i've seen on other site's ppl say to clip your radio my own 2 cent's that's foolish.
