the mfj is a nice looking meter it only has a 2000 watt scale and
i need way more than that

on all these lower end meters if it says 5000 watts
then im only going to push max maybe 2500 watts
if its the 2000 watt model then im only going to run maybe 1000 thru it

reason is i was testing a 16 pill into a pdc 6000 and let me tell you that watt meter can produce some serious smoke real quick

I have one of the new model BullDog meters and love it. It is dead on with the bird 43P on peak and RMS. Also all the scales seem to be within +/-5W of each other.

I use the WM1 computing meter from Autek research. I run that with my 1.5KW amplifier for ham. I used it on 11 meters too. You don't have to worry about calibrating, switching, nothing. It's a plug and play. I have a friend who owns a ham radio repair shop and we ran it up against the Bird. Both meters were reading the same. I had it in line for a year and love it. For me it is big and easy to read from a distance. I never had a SWR meter in line before because my radios have built in SWR meters but I had to get this one when I threw the amp in line. Great Meter!

Here is the website.

I've never used the DC side of it but from using the AC hookup, it is a great meter. The five watt swr is very accurate on tune up and when I switch over to 1.5kw, the SWR is the same as low power. It is lighted too. Sure beats the heck out of calibrating. I can switch antennas and the SWR is "there".

The bulldog meter look very intresting.Last time i saw one of those was around 10 years ago and it had a round meter. Not a bad price seeing ya dont have to buy any slugs for it.I have a few slugs for my bird and they shure do add up quick.
