Default Equalizer

Thinking about scooping an equalizer from ebay to toy around with a little bit. I'm really interested in this "HiFi" audio thing, and while I wouldn't mind having it myself, I really don't have the money for a set-up.

I figured a decent equalizer though, would improve somewhat the audio I already have. I've found several 5 and 7 band EQ's for around $40-$50, and I've just been sitting here thinking about the idea.

Would it even be worth my time and money to just put an EQ in-line?

How would I connect my mic to the RCA's and then the RCA's to the microphone plug on my radio?

Would it be worth your time/effort? Beats me, would it? That's a personal thingy.
About that equalizer and mics, etc. The only thing that equalizer will handle is the audio signal from the mic. It doesn't do switching etc. So, it amounts to splitting those two things into different 'parts' to be handled separately. It's not impossible by any means, but it is different, so count on doing some rewiring. May be an 'insertion box' or 'tap' on the audio line in the mic cable? Has to be several ways of doing that, take your pick.
Then you'll get to do a lot of adjusting to get the equalizer set 'correctly' for use with the audio circuits in your radio. I hope you find some patient 'victims' that will be willing to do that with you.

It was just a thought.. Figured $40, for a little better audio wouldn't be a bad investment. I think I'm just going to stick with my D 104 / W2IHY element though. I mean, the audio is good from it, but you know how it is. Never satisfied..

Sounding good. Hope to catch ya on the band Reno Radio.

Here was my first day off with some dx with a 45 modified 148gtl in the mobile.

Heil PR40 Microphone
Behringer xenex 1204 USB
Cobra 148 GTL
1 pill, 2 pill, 8 pill, and 32 pill skullcracka.

I have since adjusted to where it is a little less bassy.... but I do tend to turn it up now and again.... I also have my highs and mids set to match it now.

As he says.... Hook it to a setup with subwoofers.

I think I'm probably just going to stick with my D104 and the "HiFi" element in it for now, and maybe see if Chris can swap out a few of those parts in my 2980 to help it pass a little wider range audio..
